A graduate of public schools, including the University of Toronto, Tena is a more recent participant in the world of Christian education. She became passionate about it when planning for her children’s education.
Tena brings that same passion to Edvance where she serves schools as a primary contact for the association. Through volunteer work at Heritage Christian School in Lindsay, Ontario, Tena learned to appreciate the role of school administrative support personnel and developed an affinity for the work. She worked first as a receptionist at the Ontario Alliance of Christian Schools, where she was quickly promoted to the position of Executive Assistant and in that role served four successive executive directors. She embodies the Edvance goal to serve affiliate schools and their leaders with excellence, which in practical terms means that she is never too busy to ensure that everyone receives quick and reliable responses. Tena’s innate drive for learning is demonstrated through her own achievements, first in earning her Bachelor of Science in Psychology, earning her designation as an Early Childhood Educator, and through her continual improvement of her skills as technology and cultural shifts continue to require advanced knowledge of platforms such as Adobe, Microsoft and web design products. Tena understands the importance of being the supportive administrator and event organizer who frees staff and board from having to worry that every day operational minutiae are receiving attention.
