Congratulations to the Senior Choir from Calvin Christian School (CCS) in Hamilton, as they achieved a silver award in the National MusicFest held in Ottawa on May 11, 2016.
The choir qualified for the national festival by receiving a gold standard at the 2016 Golden Horseshoe Music Festival held in February. As part of the trip, the choir enjoyed their stay in a hotel, a city walk to sing ‘Song for Canada’ by the Parliament buildings, and a very inspiring jazz concert at the National Arts Centre by the Humber College Jazz Band and Jazz Vocal Ensemble, including special guest drummer, Will Kennedy.
The Senior Choir , led by CCS teacher and choir director Deb Van Egmond, sang very well at the festival—one of their best public performances. The adjudication was challenging and professional. The students participated in a teaching clinic following the performance, with excellent advice and support for future growth.
Grade 8 student, Simon Buist, received the MusicFest honour award for longevity in the choir, and for leadership in the Senior Choir, school bands and the school’s Sound of Music production.
