Starting at 9:20 this morning, over 100 athletes from Hamilton, Burlington, Oakville and Brantford began arriving at Providence Christian School (PCS) to participate in the Special Olympics Four Corners Bocce Tournament.
“We would love a crowd of fans to help us give a heroes’ welcome in the high five line when the athletes arrive,” said a recent update to the PCS Facebook page.
Competitions in the regional tournament will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the school’s 12-acre campus. Members from the broader community are invited to cheer on teams as they compete for the chance to advance to the Four Corners Provincial School Championships happening next May.
Attending the 10 a.m. opening ceremony will be two-time Paralympian athlete, Brock Richardson.
Providence students will be putting their hospitality skills to use today as they show the 24 teams around the school, help with registration or serve as photographers, referees and score keepers.
