Christian school students in eastern Ontario with a love for reading took part in the April 19 Battle of the Books hosted at Trenton Christian School.

Jane Hoogendam, vice-principal at Knox Christian School in Bowmanville, organized the event, and says this is the fifth year she has been involved.

“It’s really good for the enrichment students, the ones that need that extra challenge,” she says.

Schools send teams of five to six students in either the junior (Grades 4-6) or senior (Grades 6-8) division. Teams face off against other schools to answer specific questions about the 10 books students have read ahead of time.

Immanuel Christian School in Oshawa, Heritage Christian School in Lindsay, Knox Christian School in Bowmanville, Northumberland Christian School in Cobourg, Trenton Christian School and Kingston Christian School participated.

First place winners in the junior category were Knox Christian School, and in the senior category Kingston Christian School.

Students enjoyed pizza at lunch and receiving a free book at the end of the day.
