Fifty years ago, the words “unto the glory of God” were engraved into a school’s cornerstone.
At that time, 26 families began a journey to build a Christian school in Barrie, Ont.
Take a walk down memory lane and help Timothy Christian School (THS) celebrate its golden anniversary milestone April 27.
TCS is holding morning activities, a memory café and a special 50th anniversary celebratory dinner.
The school is also hosting an open house from 2-5 p.m. at its current location at 750 Essa Rd.
“We are overjoyed to share our school’s history and God’s blessings on Christian education in Barrie,” THS says.
“We look forward to celebrating and sharing our story with you.”
Back in 1963, the 26 families had a vision to build something that would stand the test of time.
“This visionary community and a voluntary board of trustees, took much time and care, in not only establishing a facility and school community ready for the students of the day, but worked hard to ensure that the foundations laid would last well into the future.”
By the time the doors opened in the three-roomed facility on Sept. 4, 1963, the membership had grown to 83 families and 70 children from Barrie, Innisfil, Oro, Minesing and surrounding areas took part in the first day of classes.
THS invites people to learn more about the school on April 27 by taking tours of its existing location and the original building at 49 Ferris Lane. People interested in tours should call the school directly at 705-726-6621.
TCS principal Rod Berg will also be available to provide media representatives with a guided tour and answer questions from 2-5 p.m.
